Broughtonia is a genus of orchids (family Orchidaceae) native to the Bahamas and the Greater Antilles.[1] The genus is abbreviated Bro in trade journals.



As presently constituted (May 2014), Broughtonia consists of 6 accepted natural species plus one recognized nothospecies.[1]

  2. Broughtonia domingensis (Lindl.) Rolfe - Hispaniola, Mona Island
  3. Broughtonia × jamaicensis Sauleda & R.M.Adams - Jamaica (B. negrilensis × B. sanguinea)
  4. Broughtonia lindenii (Lindl.) Dressler - Cuba, Bahamas
  5. Broughtonia negrilensis Fowlie - Jamaica
  6. Broughtonia ortgiesiana (Rchb.f.) Dressler - Cuba
  7. Broughtonia sanguinea (Sw.) R.Br. in W.T.Aiton - Jamaica

The haploid chromosome number of one species, B. sanguinea, has been determined as n = 20.[2]
